Excel Loader is a standalone utility that launch Microsoft Excel with the control of which add-ins should be loaded or not.
All settings via Excel Loader are temporarily, i e Excel Loader does not make any permanent changes in the Windows registry. When launching Microsoft Excel the standard way all the settings for all add-ins are intact.

# 2 Choose version of Microsoft Excel (only installed versions can be used)
# 3 Choose if Microsoft Excel will start with a new workbook or with an existing workbook
# 4 Choose which add-ins should be loaded (checked) or not (unchecked) when Microsoft Excel is launched
# 5 Launch Microsoft Excel by clicking on the Load Excel button
Start Excel Loader
You can either launch Excel Loader via the shortcut on the desktop or via the command Windows startbutton | Programs | Excel Loader | Excel Loader.
Choose Microsoft Excel version
Excel Loader can launch version 2000 to 2007. You can only launch version(s) of Excel that is actually installed on the computer.
New workbook or a specific Excel workbook
Excel Loader can either launch Microsoft Excel with a new workbook or with a selected workbook. The option to select a workbook is available when the loading process of Microsoft Excel has been initiated.
Choose add-ins to load or unload
After choosing the wanted version of Microsoft Excel Excel Loader read the Windows registry for available add-ins and also search for add-ins in the main folders of Microsoft Office (only XLAs and XLLs). Excel Loader then populate the table with the available add-ins. Those add-ins that are initially activated are checked in the first column in the table.
Name
Column:
For XLAs and XLLs the filename is presented in the column.
For Automation and COM add-ins their ProgID are viewed in the column.
Pathway / Info / ProgID / Status Column:
For XLAs and XLLs the name and the pathway to the file are presented in the column.
For Automation and COM add-ins their loadbehavior status are presented in the column as the following table shows:
|
Status |
What it means |
|
Bootload | Load on startup |
Load on when Microsoft Excel start up. |
|
Connected | Bootload |
Is loaded and load on when Microsoft Excel start up. |
|
Disconnected | Not loaded |
Is not loaded. |
|
Demand load |
Load only when requested by user. |
Per se Excel Loader doesn't change the loadbehaviors of the COM add-ins. When Microsoft Excel is launched their permanently loadbehaviors are initialized and then they are either connected or disconnected . To prevent an COM add-in to be loaded it would require a change in the Windows Registry.
In order to load add-ins
they must be checked in the list before launching Microsoft Excel and
to not load the add-ins must be unchecked in the list.
Settings
In order to locate the add-ins that are shipped with Microsoft Excel you must configure which main folders Excel Loader should look into. This include also any personal add-ins stored in these main folders.
If the settings are not made correctly Excel Loader will hang and you will need to force it to close.
Clean boot
Clean Boot means that Microsoft Excel will be loaded without any add-ins at all, i e all selections in the list will be cleared. To start Microsoft Excel you then click on the Load Excel-button.
